Seagull and Pigeon Deterrents on Sea Music Sculpture, Poole, Dorset
The famous Sea Music Sculpture is a landmark on the Quay in Poole. Sea Music is an internationally important sculpture that has stood on the Quay near Poole Museum since 1991. It was created by Anthony Caro, one of Britain’s greatest sculptors and it is the only site-specific public sculpture by the artist in the UK. The design brings together the cascading waves and the sails of the boats in the harbour and echoes the sound of the sea.
Bird proofing expertise required
The sculpture has recently been refurbished with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, The Arts Council England,Troika and JP Morgan. As part of the project Rokill specialist Bird Proofing team was employed to install discreet deterrents to reduce Seagull and Pigeon activity. A combination of Optical gel and discreet wires were used to minimise the aesthetic impact to the structure.
Installing optical gel and vertical wires
The works were carried out very early on a Sunday morning using a 33m metre hydraulic platform to access to the top of the sculpture, you certainly need a head for heights to be a bird proofing technician. Our specialist team hold all the relevant qualifications for operating hydraulic platforms and working safely at height.
Rokill are proud to have worked on such an important project in Poole.
